My first dance, choreographed when I was 10 to a Chopin Waltz, earned me a scholarship to my ballet school.

My formal study of choreography began with Janet Soares, Lukas Hoving and Doris Rudko at Juilliard. I was also fortunate to work with the choreographers in residence, José Limón, Anna Sokolow, Alfredo Corvino and Anthony Tudor. My professional work as a dancer with Elizabeth Keen, Hannah Kahn and Frances Alenikoff also informed my process.

Since then, my work has been propelled by a variety of productions, collaborations, school dance programs and my own personal desire.

Choreography projects including operas, musicals, videos and stage plays involve research of period dance styles, analysis of music scores, and written texts for thematic character. These productions included designing movements to fit the training level of the dancers, singers and actors, to respond to the needs of the thematic content and the director’s vision. More rehearsal time was required when teaching non-dancers a specific style of dancing such as tap.

My personal choreography responds to a piece of music, a work of art, a science or math concept or a text. My goal is a personal representation of the music, text, or visual art.  Choreographing with untrained movers of any age or ability balances the challenge of working with experienced dancers to explore movement invention, composition and spatial exploration. Site-specific work also provokes my curiosity to explore physical meaning in spaces.

My current inspirations are Trisha Brown, Pina Bausch and Angelin Preljocaj.
